Unit 1

1.1 - Media Representations

In the news, on social media, on TV… reality is never as it seems. In this unit we explore how everything in the media is only a re-presentation of reality. Everything is carefully constructed and coded to engage audiences and make them believe, act or think a certain way. Reality can be distorted and changed. Some things are selected, some are omitted. What we are left with is a re-construction of the truth. You will look at advertising, film trailers, newspapers, commercials, magazines, YouTube influencers! Nothing is real!
